What WPM means
WPM (Words Per Minute) is the standard measure of typing speed: how many words you type in one minute. By convention, one 'word' equals five characters, so typing 200 characters in a minute equals 40 WPM.
Accuracy matters just as much: a fast typist who backspaces constantly is slower in practice than a steady one. Most typing tests, including Haluta, score a combination of speed and accuracy.
Average speeds by level
Studies consistently place the average adult typing speed at around 40 WPM. Professional office workers typically reach 50–70 WPM, while competitive typists exceed 100 WPM.
A rough level chart: 20–40 WPM beginner, 40–60 average, 60–80 proficient, 80–100 advanced, and 100+ elite. The world's fastest typists sustain over 200 WPM in short bursts.
Accuracy before speed
If your accuracy is below 95%, fixing errors costs you more time than slow typing does. Build muscle memory at a comfortable pace first — speed follows accuracy, not the other way around.
